Console for Anson's Games and Emulators
## Current State
Installed Official SteamOS. Effectively functions as a docked steam deck. Perhaps 50% more powerful. Works decently for now, but is less integrated than I would like, and lacks a good [[Profile System]].
Hardware:
Radeon RX 470 4gb
Core i7 7700
12gb generic dd4 2400mt/s (8 + 4 stick configuration)
650 watt psu
Assembled in 3d printed "cage" surrounded by wooden panel shell.
## Future Plans
### Software
Goals for the future are to solve these main problems:
- Separate profiles and saves for each user, which also leads into...
- Split screen support, specifically by launching two instances next to each other with two different selected profiles
- Proper Integration of non steam games, with features similar to Steam Input and Steam Overlay/Quick settings working seamlessly.
- Custom UI (I have no problems with the current Steam UI and I'm a a bad designer so it will either closely resemble it or just use something like ES-DE with custom overlays and prompts that adds these new features).
- Move away from dependence on SteamOS which is not meant to run on reuglar desktops and limited. Current plan is to boot straight into a Gamescope Session inside a Minimal Fedora Installation (Fedora Everything).
### Hardware
I have not dealt with hardware in a while because there are several issues that need to be adressed in the next revision.
Critical Problems:
- 3d printed back panel warping from heat
- Low airflow
- incorrectly sized panels
- not sturdy
- poor wifi/bt and antenna
- power button disconnected
Solutions/Ideas:
- petg back panel, exhaust fan (could utilize old cpu cooler),
- intake holes on the front panel
- new cpu cooler (I don't like this)
- no long unsupported overhangs
- print with thicker plastic
- ~~wood supports? (also don't like this)~~
- Plastic i/o shield
- Ethernet primary, leave internal antennas as backup
- internal USB BT adapter
New Structure:
fully assembled wooden case, all plastic (petg) backside, keep pla base. assemble on plastic, slide and fit into wooden case, screw down.
I should probably get some threaded inserts (do wooden and plastic hybrid ones exist?)
## Sub-Projects
### IMAGE (Input Manager for Anson's Games and Emulators)
- basically steam input with USAGE integration
### USAGE (User Shell for Anson's Games and Emulators)
- game launcher (might just use es de) + overlays (profiles, settings, etc.)
